The price of Bitcoin has crossed the 80-thousand-dollar mark for the first time, just days after Donald Trump’s reelection to the U.S. presidency.

According to the U.S. cryptocurrency exchange platform Coinbase, the world’s most popular cryptocurrency was trading at 88-thousand-413 U.S. dollars at 4:27 p.m. Monday, up more than ten percent from a day earlier.

The price, which surpassed the 80-thousand-dollar mark the previous day, topped 85-thousand dollars on Monday and fell just short of 90-thousand dollars.

The price, which stood at around 70-thousand dollars last Tuesday, soared more than 25 percent in a week in a rally that started shortly after Trump was declared the winner of the election.

During his election campaign, Trump vowed to position the U.S. as a leader in cryptocurrency.

Meanwhile, Tesla shares soared more than 40 percent in the recent five trading days as Tesla CEO Elon Musk was a heavy supporter of Trump’s campaign.
