Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul said he is confident that the South Korea-U.S. alliance will continue to grow stronger under the incoming Donald Trump administration.

At a press conference on Tuesday, Cho said President-elect Trump’s foreign policy, which prioritizes U.S. allies’ expanded role and contributions to security, “aligns closely” with Seoul’s vision of fulfilling its responsibilities as a global pivotal state.

Emphasizing that the previous Trump administration was the first U.S. government to pursue an Indo-Pacific strategy, the minister said that strategy also aligns with diplomacy under the Yoon Suk Yeol government.

Cho said his ministry intends to further enhance cooperation with the second Trump administration through close coordination based on shared policies.
