Police say former President Moon Jae-in’s daughter has admitted that she operated an illegal lodging business in Jeju City.
Jeju’s provincial police department said Wednesday that it will hand over Moon Da-hye’s case to the prosecution sometime this week and recommend charges under the Public Health Control Act.
Moon Da-hye is accused of running a lodging business at a house under her name in Jeju City’s Hallim town until recently without declaring it.
Jeju police said she admitted to the charges when she appeared for questioning on Monday.
Jeju City asked the police to investigate in September after a petition was posted on the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission’s “e-People” website, speculating that Moon Da-hye was running such a business.
Under the Public Health Control Act, operating a lodging business without declaring it can result in up to two years in prison or a fine of up to 20 million won, about 14-thousand-300 U.S. dollars.
