The leaders of South Korea, the United States and Japan will hold a three-way discussion on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation(APEC) summit in Lima, Peru.

According to Seoul’s presidential office, President Yoon Suk Yeol, U.S. President Joe Biden and Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba are set to meet Friday.

While the trilateral talks will be the first since Ishiba took office in early October, this will also be the last gathering before the end of Biden’s presidency in January.

At a press briefing, U.S. national security adviser Jake Sullivan said the Biden administration has markedly enhanced his country’s strategic position in the Indo-Pacific region.

Sullivan said the three leaders are expected to celebrate the historic three-way cooperation at the summit and discuss the importance of institutionalizing the progress they have made to ensure it continues under the incoming Donald Trump government.
