The pilot project to restructure tertiary hospitals will continue, with the hospitals to focus on severe diseases, emergencies and rare diseases.

Currently, 31 out of 47 tertiary hospitals are taking part in the project and nine more are set to join.

The hospitals have reduced the number of general-ward beds by five to 15 percent, and 70 percent of their cases now involve severe health issues.

So far, the 31 participating tertiary hospitals have reduced a total of two thousand-452 general ward beds, excluding emergency and pediatric beds.

The ministry expects the restructuring to enhance the primary functions of tertiary hospitals and provide intensive training for medical residents.
