The ruling People Power Party has decided to take steps to ensure that the National Assembly recommends candidates for the post of special inspector to look at allegations against members of the president’s family.

The ruling camp adopted the party policy during a general meeting for its lawmakers on Thursday, putting floor leader Choo Kyung-ho in charge of devising details.

Also at the meeting, the party decided to seek amendments to legislation so the National Assembly can recommend directors for the North Korean Human Rights Foundation without undue delays.

Appointing a special inspector was one of President Yoon Suk Yeol’s campaign pledges.

The main opposition Democratic Party, meanwhile, said appointing a special inspector is not the fundamental solution to the allegations surrounding first lady Kim Keon-hee, stressing that an investigation rather than an inspection is needed.
