The leaders of South Korea and China will hold summit talks for the first time in two years, on the fringes of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation(APEC) summit in Lima, Peru.
At a press briefing Thursday, Kim Tae-hyo, the presidential office’s first deputy director of national security, said President Yoon Suk Yeol and Chinese President Xi Jinping will meet for one-on-one discussions Friday morning, local time.
Yoon and Xi previously sat down for talks on the sidelines of the Group of 20 summit in Indonesia in November 2022.
The deputy director said the two sides have expanded communication and exchanges at various levels since South Korea hosted a trilateral meeting in May with Chinese Premier Li Qiang and Japan’s then-Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.
The security aide said Yoon and Xi are expected to seek ways to vitalize bilateral economic cooperation, as well as cultural and people-to-people exchanges, and discuss regional issues such as security on the Korean Peninsula.
