The leaders of South Korea and China held a summit for the first time in two years, on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation(APEC) forum in Lima, Peru.
During the 30-minute talks on Friday, President Yoon Suk Yeol called for the two sides to closely communicate amid the rapidly changing state of global security.
Yoon emphasized that regional peace and prosperity would mutually benefit both countries, amid rising international concerns over North Korea's troop deployment to Russia.
Chinese President Xi Jinping, for his part, suggested that Seoul and Beijing fulfill their humanitarian roles to achieve peace in the region.
Yoon also held a trilateral summit with U.S. President Joe Biden and Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, where they pledged to jointly respond to the growing military cooperation between North Korea and Russia.
The leaders formalized the establishment of a secretariat to advance their trilateral cooperation.
Earlier, President Yoon spoke at the first session of the APEC summit, where he stressed the importance of the multilateral trade system and called for a suspension of the military cooperation between Pyongyang and Moscow.
Meanwhile, an anticipated meeting between U.S. President-elect Donald Trump during the South Korean leader's trip will most likely take place after Trump's inauguration in January.
