The leaders of South Korea and Canada discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in security, the defense industry and the economy, on the margins of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation(APEC) summit in Lima, Peru.

According to Seoul's presidential office, President Yoon Suk Yeol welcomed a successful launch of the "two-plus-two" dialogue between the foreign and defense ministers of South Korea and Canada earlier this month.

Yoon also expressed hope for an expansion of comprehensive cooperation in security, including a reciprocal cooperation in the defense industry.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau proposed that they further enhance cooperation as strategic partners that trust each other, also expressing hope for Canada to play an essential role as a key security partner in the Indo-Pacific region.

The two leaders condemned the illegal military cooperation between North Korea and Russia, agreeing to work together to generate a unified response from the international community.

Yoon also held his first summit talks with Brunei's Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, where he called to expand cooperation in the areas of defense, smart city, and the digital sector, marking the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties this year.
