United States President Joe Biden has urged Chinese President Xi Jinping to use China's influence on North Korea and Russia to prevent the additional dispatch of North Korean troops to Russia.

National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said on Saturday that Biden made the call while briefing on Biden's summit with Xi in Peru.

Sullivan told reporters that Biden pointed out that China has influence and capacity and should use it to try to prevent a further escalation or further expansion of the conflict through the introduction of even more North Korean troops.

Biden reportedly said that North Korea's troop deployment is a "deeply dangerous" development, with deepening cooperation between Moscow and Pyongyang likely to enhance the possibility of provocative behavior by the North, such as missile tests or a seventh nuclear test.
