Ruling People Power Party floor leader Choo Kyung-ho has urged the main opposition Democratic Party to halt what he called a political instigation against the judiciary and humbly wait for the courts to rule.
Choo made the call Monday during a meeting of the party’s Supreme Council in response to a rally that the main opposition party staged on Saturday, a day after a Seoul court handed down a suspended sentence to Democratic Party chair Lee Jae-myung for breaking the election law.
The floor leader said the protest in downtown Seoul was intended to bring down the foundation of the nation’s rule of law, as it was none other than a rally focused on saving Lee and denouncing the judiciary.
Choo said since Lee and his wife were both found guilty last week of violating the Public Official Election Act, the Democratic Party has shifted the focus of its political attacks from the prosecution to the judiciary, adding that the main opposition is raising the level of political instigation against courts.
Choo warned that while the Democratic Party is holding rallies every weekend to intimidate the judiciary, the public is growing increasingly angry.
