Employment Rate among Married Women with Minor Children Reaches All-Time High

The employment rate among married women with children under the age of 18 has reached new heights.

According to Statistics Korea on Tuesday, two-point-67 million married women aged 15 to 54 living with minor children had jobs.

Their proportion of the total jumped two-point-four percentage points on-year to 62-point-four percent, which is the highest on record since the state agency began compiling related data in 2016.

The figure saw a three-point-three percentage point increase on-year among mothers of children aged six or younger, as compared with one-point-seven percentage points for those with kids aged seven to 12.

Meanwhile, the proportion of married women who have stopped working dropped 133-thousand on-year to one-point-22 million, translating to an all-time low of 15-point-nine percent of married women.
