The main opposition Democratic Party(DP) has lambasted the prosecution for indicting party leader Lee Jae-myung on charges of breach of duty when he was the Gyeonggi provincial governor.
At a press briefing Tuesday, DP chief spokesperson Jo Seung-lae said the prosecution indicted Lee even though the charges against him were dismissed after a police investigation.
The spokesperson denounced the prosecution, accusing it of abusing its power for political reasons.
Jo also urged the ruling People Power Party(PPP) and party leader Han Dong-hoon to voice concerns over the prosecution’s targeting of the opposition.
The prosecution indicted the former governor without pretrial detention over allegations that he paid for personal meals and other expenses with the provincial card and budget between 2018 and 2021, worth 107 million won, or around 77-thousand U.S. dollars.
