President Yoon Suk Yeol has asked the Group of 20(G20) nations for their support to promote South Korea’s carbon-free energy initiatives.

The president made the appeal Tuesday during the third session of the G20 summit in Brazil, stressing the important role of carbon-free energy initiatives in achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 and bridging the energy transition gap.

Yoon proposed a carbon-free energy initiative during his keynote speech at the UN General Assembly in September last year, and the government launched a global working group last month.

Yoon also pledged to expand South Korea’s support and assistance for countries affected by climate change so they can overcome the climate crisis and transition to clean energy.

The president stressed that South Korea will continue to expand its official development assistance for nations vulnerable to climate change.

As part of this effort, Yoon highlighted South Korea’s commitment to contribute an additional 300 million U.S. dollars to the Green Climate Fund, a pledge he made at last year’s G20 summit.
