“Sustainable development and the energy transition are directly linked to the survival of mankind. Achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 is a prerequisite for a sustainable future.”
“To achieve sustainable development, we must simultaneously pursue efforts to reduce plastic pollution.”

The presidential office told reporters that Yoon asked the G20 nations for their support to promote South Korea’s carbon-free initiatives.

At the UN General Assembly in September last year, Yoon delivered a keynote speech in which he proposed a plan that seeks to leverage the country’s advanced nuclear power and hydrogen technologies to achieve carbon neutrality.

At the latest G20 session, the president stressed that South Korea will continue to expand its official development assistance for nations that are especially vulnerable to the effects of climate change.

As part of this effort, Yoon highlighted South Korea’s commitment to contribute an additional 300 million U.S. dollars to the Green Climate Fund, a pledge he made at last year’s G20 summit.

With the climate session, Yoon wrapped up a six-day trip to Peru and Brazil that included meetings with key leaders attending the APEC and G20 summits.

In those meetings, he focused on building global solidarity to deal with the increased military collaboration between North Korea and Russia.
