North Korea and Russia have reportedly signed a protocol to expand cooperation after a meeting of their joint committee on the economy, science and technology in Pyongyang.

According to the North’s state-run Korean Central News Agency(KCNA) on Thursday, the two nations signed the agreement the previous day after the eleventh meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee for Cooperation in Trade, Economy, Science.

The KCNA said Yun Jong-ho, the external economic relations minister of North Korea, and Russian Natural Resources Minister Alexander Kozlov signed the protocol.

The KCNA did not disclose details about the protocol, but Russian media reported that the two nations agreed to increase the number of charter flights.

According to Russia’s TASS news agency, Kozlov mentioned plans to organize direct flights not only from Russia’s eastern regions but also from its largest cities.

Currently, the only flight route in operation connects Pyongyang with the Russian city of Vladivostok.
