Live TV coverage will not be permitted in the courtroom on Monday for main opposition Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung’s sentencing hearing on charges of subornation of perjury.

The Seoul Central District Court announced the decision Thursday after reviewing the legal issues.

Earlier, the ruling People Power Party’s Legal Advisory Committee submitted a request to permit live coverage of the proceedings, citing increased public interest after Lee’s conviction last week for violating the election law.

While the court could have granted permission without Lee’s consent, it is believed to have decided against it to prevent unnecessary confusion and to keep order within the court.

The court also rejected a similar request from the ruling party to permit live coverage of Lee’s trial hearing last Friday.
