North Korean leader Kim Jong-un says his previous experience of negotiations with the United States only confirmed that the country maintains an aggressive, hostile policy toward North Korea.

According to the North’s state-run Korean Central News Agency(KCNA) on Friday, Kim made the remarks during a speech at the opening ceremony of an arms exhibition in Pyongyang the previous day.

Kim said the North has already gone as far as it can in negotiating with the United States and that the process demonstrated not the superpower’s willingness to coexist, but its unwavering hostility toward the North.

Kim’s remarks appear to counter speculation about the possible resumption of dialogue between North Korea and the U.S. after former President Donald Trump’s reelection.

The North Korean leader then reaffirmed his commitment to bolstering the country’s defense capabilities, saying the Korean Peninsula has never faced such a serious risk of nuclear war as it does now.
