The air force chiefs of South Korea, the United States and Japan agreed to enhance security cooperation during a video-linked meeting on Thursday.

South Korea’s Air Force said Friday that its chief of staff, Gen. Lee Young-su, met the previous day with his American and Japanese counterparts, David Allvin and Hiroaki Uchikura.

The Air Force said it is the first time the three nations have held such talks, adding that they agreed to continue to work together to pursue stability and security in the region in response to growing threats from North Korea.

To that end, the three sides agreed to hold talks regularly and discussed ways to expand joint aerial drills.

The three nations held their first joint aerial exercises in October and also staged joint air drills twice this year during the trilateral multidomain Freedom Edge exercises.
