Amid heavy snow in the central region, the interior ministry has activated a Level One emergency posture. 

According to the ministry on Wednesday, the emergency posture was activated at 3 a.m., while the authorities raised the nation’s crisis alert level for heavy snow by a notch on its four-tier scale, from the lowest level, “attention,” to “caution.”

As of 6 a.m., roads to Mount Inwang, Mount Bukak, Samcheong-dong and Waryong Park in Seoul were closed to traffic, and voyages were canceled for 96 passenger ships on 74 routes. 

Access has been restricted to 185 locations at seven national parks across the nation.

The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters called for caution and preparations to prevent traffic congestion during rush hour and keep pedestrians safe from icy roads.
