U.S. President-elect Donald Trump’s team is reportedly discussing the possibility of pursuing direct talks with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

Citing two people familiar with the matter, Reuters reported on Tuesday that Trump’s team is discussing seeking direct talks with Kim, hoping a fresh diplomatic push can lower the risks of armed conflict.

The sources, however, said the policy discussions are “fluid” and the president-elect has not made any final decisions. 

The sources reportedly said an initial Trump goal would be to reestablish basic engagement, but that further policy aims have not been set and there is no precise timetable. 

Trump has repeatedly stressed his close relationship with Kim during his campaign.
