Seoul has witnessed its heaviest snowfall for November since modern meteorological observations began in the city in October 1907.

The capital city accumulated 16-and-a-half centimeters of snow at 7 a.m. Wednesday at the Seoul Meteorological Observatory, the highest figure for November in 117 years.

The previous record was 12-point-four centimeters on November 28, 1972.

The heaviest snowfall on record for the same location was 31 centimeters on March 24, 1922.

Snowfall records for the city are based on measurements taken at the Seoul Weather Observatory in central Seoul, but parts of the capital city saw more than 20 centimeters of snow on Wednesday, with Seongbuk District receiving 20-point-six centimeters and Gangbuk getting 20-point-four centimeters as of 7 a.m.
