The prosecution has raided the headquarters of the ruling People Power Party(PPP) in Seoul as part of its probe into a high-profile political scandal involving power broker Myung Tae-kyun.
According to the ruling party, investigators from the Changwon District Prosecutors’ Office arrived at the party headquarters near the National Assembly around 9:30 a.m. and attempted to secure materials related to the party’s nominations for the 2022 by-elections.
Myung is accused of accepting multiple payments from former PPP lawmaker Kim Young-sun after Kim won a parliamentary seat in the by-election in June 2022, and the prosecution suspects she paid Myung to help her get nominated as the ruling party candidate.
Myung, a self-styled political consultant, is suspected of using his personal connections with President Yoon Suk Yeol and first lady Kim Keon-hee to influence the nomination process.
