The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on Wednesday that it will expand rush-hour subway and bus service amid heavy snow in the capital.

For subway lines 2 and 5 through 8, rush-hour service will be extended by half an hour, with morning peak hours now lasting from 7 to 9:30 a.m. instead of the usual 7 to 9 a.m., while evening peak hours will last from 6 to 8:30 p.m. instead of 6 to 8 p.m.

As a result, an additional 20 trains will be added during the morning rush hour and 15 during the evening rush hour.

City buses will also extend their rush-hour schedules by half an hour.

The heavy snow is expected to continue until Thursday morning, and the city government raised its emergency response posture for snow clearing by one notch to Level Two earlier in the day.
