Fifty three vehicles were involved in a chain collision on a major road in the eastern city of Wonju, Gangwon province on Wednesday, injuring at least seven people. 

Local police said that the multi-vehicle pile up occurred at 5:50 p.m. in a stretch of road connecting the Manjong intersection and Wonju Enterprise City.

Those injured have been sent to hospital.

Authorities blamed icy road conditions following the heavy snow for the accident.
