Wednesday’s heavy snow in the Seoul metropolitan area disrupted air travel and caused power outages.

According to the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, as of 6 a.m. Thursday, 61 power outages were reported, 46 of which were resolved, and 93 flights and 99 passenger ship voyages were canceled.

The headquarters also said it is investigating two deaths that occurred after facilities collapsed in Yangpyeong and Pyeongtaek, both in Gyeonggi Province.

The snow restricted access to 328 sections of 13 national parks nationwide, with 18 roads closed to traffic, including seven in Seoul.

The government upgraded its emergency response posture by a notch to Level Two at 2 p.m. Wednesday as heavy snow warnings were issued throughout the country.

The heavy snow crisis level was also elevated from “caution” to “vigilance.”
