Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba is reportedly arranging a trip to South Korea in January for talks with President Yoon Suk Yeol.

The Japanese daily the Yomiuri Shimbun issued the report Thursday, citing multiple officials from the Japanese government.

The report said Ishiba’s trip is likely to take place in early January, before Japan’s parliament convenes its regular session.

The Yomiuri said if Ishiba visits in January, South Korea will be the first country he visits for bilateral diplomatic relations.

Ishiba is expected to propose ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation, as next year marks the 60th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between the two nations.
