The prosecution has raided Changwon City Hall and the South Gyeongsang provincial government’s office as part of its probe into a high-profile political scandal involving power broker Myung Tae-kyun.
Investigators from the Changwon District Prosecutors’ Office raided the two offices Friday morning.
They are reportedly seeking materials related to the government’s decision to designate Changwon as a national industrial complex.
The prosecution suspects that Myung received confidential documents from the city government regarding the designation and recommended that his acquaintances buy land in the area.
The prosecution is expanding its investigation of Myung to cover various allegations concerning the 2022 presidential election, the 2021 parliamentary by-elections and the 2022 local elections, as well as allegations that he manipulated public opinion polls.
