The head of the state audit agency has expressed deep regret over what he called a “political impeachment,” referring to the main opposition’s push to impeach him over alleged noncompliance in parliamentary hearings regarding the relocation of the presidential residence.

Board of Audit and Inspection(BAI) Chair Choe Jae-hae, who attended a parliamentary committee session on Friday, said his agency had reported all findings from its own audit of allegations surrounding the 2022 relocation.

The BAI chief denied claims that his agency neglected to verify first lady Kim Keon-hee’s links to the relocation.

Choe said he had no intention of stepping down before a parliamentary vote on the impeachment motion.

The presidential office on Friday also slammed the DP’s move, saying that it violates the very foundation of constitutional order.

Ruling People Power Party(PPP) floor leader Choo Kyung-ho slammed the opposition, accusing it of attempting to weaken the administration through impeachments.

Meanwhile, the main opposition Democratic Party(DP) threatened corresponding measures against senior prosecutors’ protest against its push to impeach prosecutors who led an investigation into stock manipulation allegations implicating the first lady.
