The presidential office slammed the opposition Democratic Party(DP)'s push to impeach the Board of Audit and Inspection(BAI) Chair and three senior prosecutors saying that it violates the very foundation of constitutional order.

During Friday's press briefing, presidential spokesperson Jeong Hye-jeon denounced the DP's push to impeach the BAI chair as unprecedented in constitutional history.

Regarding the prosecutors’ impeachment, Jeong said the move was obviously a revenge tactic as it targets the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office leadership simply because the outcome of the prosecution's investigations do not align with the opposition’s expectations.

She argued that such actions appear intended to disrupt ongoing investigations and trials involving the DP and its leader.

With a parliamentary majority, the DP intends to introduce motions next week to impeach three prosecutors, including the chief of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office, over their decision not to indict the first lady after investigating her alleged role in a stock manipulation case.

The DP also plans to file an impeachment motion against BAI Chair Choe Jae-hae for refusing to provide documents requested by parliament regarding an audit of the presidential office's 2022 relocation.
