Russia has reportedly invited North Korean forces to its event to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Soviet victory in World War Two next year.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry on Saturday, Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov extended the invitation during a meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in Pyongyang.

Russia holds a Victory Day event at Red Square in Moscow on May 9 every year to commemorate the Soviet Union's victory over Nazi Germany in World War Two in 1945.

Belousov reportedly invited the North Korean forces to participate in a military parade at the ceremony next year.

Russia had previously stated that, in honor of the 80th anniversary, it would host a large-scale ceremony the following year.

The invitation raises speculations that the North Korean leader may visit Moscow, leading the North Korean military for the event.
