The Fair Trade Commission(FTC) has launched sanctions procedures against Coupang and other online platforms that allegedly hindered the cancellation of paid membership services.

Industry sources said Monday that the FTC sent a review report to Coupang in October, accusing the company of violating e-commerce laws.

The commission suspects that Coupang made it difficult for customers to cancel the platform’s paid Wow membership service midterm.

Coupang allegedly did not refund the difference when members requested midterm cancellations and instead ensured the service remained active until the end of the month.

The FTC also sent review reports last month regarding similar allegations against the country’s largest online portal site, Naver, and the online supermarket platform Market Kurly.
