South Korea’s ministry in charge of inter-Korean affairs says North Korea has begun demolishing a clubhouse built by a South Korean firm at a golf course inside the now-shuttered Mount Geumgang tourism complex.

At a press briefing Monday, unification ministry spokesperson Koo Byoung-sam said most of the facilities in the tourism zone have either been dismantled or are in the process of being torn down.

The spokesperson said only a few facilities are believed to be intact, including a meeting place for families separated during the Korean War.

He said Seoul intends to hold Pyongyang to account for infringing on the property rights of the South Korean government and South Korean businesses, no matter how long it takes.

The North has been tearing down South Korean facilities at the scenic resort since 2022, three years after regime leader Kim Jong-un ordered the dismantling of “unpleasant-looking” structures built by the South.
