The nation’s opposition parties are likely to push for the impeachment of President Yoon Suk Yeol now that his martial law order has been quashed.

A group of some 40 lawmakers from the main opposition Democratic Party and minority opposition parties called for Yoon’s impeachment in a press conference at the National Assembly early Wednesday morning.

Rebuilding Korea Party floor leader Hwang Un-ha, who is leading the group, said the president has effectively committed treason and it is clear that he cannot remain in office for even a moment longer.

Hwang added that the parties will hold discussions to propose a motion for Yoon’s impeachment by the end of Wednesday.
