Bank of Korea(BOK) Gov. Rhee Chang-yong predicts that the aftershocks from President Yoon Suk Yeol’s martial law decree won’t impact the nation’s economic growth path.

Rhee made the assessment Thursday when he met with reporters and discussed market trends after Yoon declared martial law and then called it off due to a parliamentary vote.

The BOK chief said the biggest concern is to ensure that the market does not witness panic or significant volatility, stressing that such efforts are most important in the short term.

Rhee said the won-dollar rate, which surged immediately after the martial law decree, has dropped sharply since it was lifted but is expected to fall slowly to levels seen before the episode.

He said he believes the rate will go back to prior levels unless a new shock factor emerges.
