Police have designated President Yoon Suk Yeol as a suspect in a criminal case and is not ruling out arresting him or imposing a travel ban over last week’s martial law incident.
In a briefing Monday, a member of the special investigation team within the Korean National Police Agency’s National Investigation Headquarters said the team is still reviewing whether to impose the ban, adding that it will consider the likelihood of Yoon leaving the country.
The police official also said an emergency arrest is possible if the requirements are met, but once again added that a review is needed.
The police have already imposed emergency travel bans on several members of the Yoon government, including former Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun, former Minister of the Interior and Safety Lee Sang-min, Defense Counterintelligence Commander Yeo In-hyung and Army Chief of Staff Park An-su.
