The prosecution has requested a pretrial detention warrant for former Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun, a key figure in President Yoon Suk Yeol’s surprise martial law move last week.
The prosecution’s special investigation team in charge of the martial law probe sought the warrant for Kim on Monday, saying he abused his power and played a significant role in acts of treason.
The prosecution reportedly wrote in the writ that Kim is suspected of conspiring with President Yoon and other figures to incite an insurrection with the intent of undermining the Constitution.
The Seoul Central District Court will hold a hearing to decide whether to issue the pretrial detention warrant for Kim at 3 pm. Tuesday.
Kim, who reportedly advised Yoon to declare martial law, was arrested without a court warrant and put into a detention center Sunday morning, six hours after he voluntarily appeared at the prosecution for questioning.
