Chosunilbo: China

China& 039 s alleged attempts to distort the history of the ancient Korean kingdom of Goguryeo have apparently spread to Chinese university circles.

The Seoul-based Chosunilbo Daily confirmed on Sunday that China& 039 s prestigious Peking University and Fudan University in Shanghai have been using history text books that describe Gorguyeo as a vassal state to China.

The confirmation comes after the Chinese Foreign Ministry& 039 s recent elimination of the ancient Goguryeo Kingdom from a description of Korean kingdoms on the ministry& 039 s Internet Website.

The use of such textbooks in the two universities is leading to concerns that similar textbooks depicting Gorguryeo as a distinct part of China& 039 s history could be used in local elementary, middle and high schools.

An official of South Korea& 039 s Embassy in Beijing says Seoul will continuously work to push China to correct what it says are distortions of history.
