Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon has stressed that Seoul is safe and called on travelers to visit the capital.

Oh made the remarks Wednesday during an emergency meeting held to discuss the economic impact of last week’s martial law incident, saying the world is asking if Seoul is safe.

He relayed the message about Seoul being safe in English, Japanese and Chinese at the meeting, which also saw the attendance of foreign correspondents.

Oh said Seoul will devise substantial measures to minimize damage to the tourism industry.

To prevent any industry from suffering serious losses, Oh said the city government will make use of an emergency support account to promote Seoul tourism.

The mayor also vowed active efforts to prevent the attrition of skilled workers by expanding retention pay, stressing that people are the heart of the tourism industry.
