Top Diplomats of S. Korea, Japan Discuss Bilateral Relations

The top diplomats from South Korea and Japan have exchanged opinions on the situation in South Korea and discussed bilateral relations. 

According to Seoul’s foreign ministry on Wednesday, foreign minister Cho Tae-yul explained the current situation in South Korea and the government’s efforts to ensure the stable management of state affairs during a phone call with Japanese foreign minister Takeshi Iwaya.

During the 20-minute phone call on Wednesday evening, Cho stressed that South Korea will continue its foreign diplomacy in a consistent manner while maintaining the current framework for its relations with Japan.

According to the ministry, the top diplomats said bilateral cooperation between the two nations and trilateral cooperation with the United States are very important in dealing with North Korea and other global issues. 

The two sides then agreed to work together to advance bilateral relations. 

The top diplomats also agreed to continue their preparations for events marking the 60th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations next year, and to maintain close communication at various levels.
