North Korean troops deployed to Russia in support of its military offensive in Ukraine reportedly killed some 300 Ukrainian soldiers before reclaiming a Russian village.
According to the U.S. outlet NK News on Friday, the pro-Russia Telegram channel Romanov Light reported that North Korean soldiers stormed the Ukrainian-held village of Plyokhovo in Kursk “like a hurricane,” killing over 300 Ukrainian soldiers.
Vladimir Romanov, who runs the channel, claimed that the North’s special forces carried out the operation on December 6 in under two hours without taking any prisoners.
Several other pro-Russian channels picked up the news, giving credit for the Plyokhovo action to North Korean troops.
While the Ukrainian defense ministry has yet to comment on the alleged attack, former Ukrainian lawmaker and pro-Russian politician Oleg Tsaryov said he can confirm the news, without elaborating.
According to Japan’s Kyodo News, leaders from the Group of Seven nations held a videoconference on Friday and agreed to continue their joint push for measures in response to the increasing military cooperation between the North and Russia.
