A presidential advisor says Pyongyang would likely accept a U.S. proposal for a Libyan-style nuclear disarmament if the communist North is provided with security guarantees.

Moon Jung-in is the chief of the Presidential Committee on the Northeast Asian Cooperation Initiative. Moon said in a local radio program Monday North Korea would likely accept such a proposal if Seoul and Tokyo were able to persuade Pyongyang through the six-party framework discussions.

As an example, Moon cited British Prime Minister Tony Blair's brokering of a deal between Libya and the U.S. that resulted in the North African nation renouncing all weapons of mass destruction in December last year.
