The prosecution has requested a pretrial detention warrant for Army Chief of Staff Park An-su, who served as the martial law commander when President Yoon Suk Yeol declared martial law on December 3.
The prosecution’s special team probing Yoon’s brief imposition of martial law said on Sunday that it filed the request with the central regional military against Park on charges of playing a significant role in treason and abuse of power.
Shortly after Yoon declared martial law, a military decree banning all political activities was issued under Park’s name.
Park is alleged to have conveyed the decree to Cho Ji-ho, then head of the Korean National Policy Agency, and ordered him to cordon off the National Assembly.
In addition, Park was reportedly involved in preparing the formation of the martial law command even after the National Assembly passed a motion to end martial law.
