North Korean state media on Monday reported on the parliamentary passage of a motion to impeach President Yoon Suk Yeol, two days after the vote.

The North’s state-run Korean Central News Agency(KCNA) said the impeachment motion against Yoon was approved on Saturday.

The KCNA said that the South Korean parliament voted for the motion, which was presented for the second time, adding the first motion was scrapped after lawmakers from the ruling party boycotted the vote.

Calling Yoon’s televised address last Thursday "a press statement spliced with lies and obstinacy," the KCNA said his remarks sparked off stronger backlash and resentment in political and social circles.

The report added that the investigation into Yoon, the "ringleader of rebellion," and his accomplices is under way, with top defense and policy officials detained or suspended.

News of the impeachment was also published in the Rodong Sinmun daily, which targets the general North Korean public.
