The United States has imposed new sanctions against individuals and entities that allegedly facilitate North Korea’s ballistic missile development and its military support for Russia.
The Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control(OFAC) said Monday that it sanctioned nine individuals and seven entities that have provided financial and military support to North Korea.
The U.S. State Department also sanctioned three targets in connection with the North’s ballistic missile program.
The listed targets of the OFAC sanctions include Kim Yong-bok, deputy chief of the General Staff of the Korean People’s Army; and Ri Chang-ho, director of the Reconnaissance General Bureau, a key North Korean military intelligence agency.
The department said Kim and Ri are accompanying North Korean troops that have been deployed to Russia in support of its war in Ukraine.
The sanctions list also includes Korea Mandal Credit Bank, which allegedly facilitated the procurement of supplies for entities that support North Korea’s weapons of mass destruction program.
