Some inland regions of the country experienced their lowest temperatures of the season Wednesday morning amid a nationwide cold snap.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, temperatures stood at minus 14 degrees Celsius in Daegwallyeong Pass in Gangwon Province and minus eleven-point-six degrees in Paju, Gyeonggi Province, as of 7 a.m., with cold wave advisories issued for northern Gyeonggi Province and the inland areas of Gangwon Province.
The mercury in Seoul slipped to minus five-point-six degrees, lower than average for this time of year, with strong winds bringing temperatures down further.
The cold snap will continue into Thursday morning and is likely to ease gradually starting Thursday afternoon.
Parts of the nation are forecast to see snow or rain on Wednesday, with heavy snow advisories issued for Buan and Gochang, both in North Jeolla Province, and for mountainous areas on Jeju Island.
The weather agency expects up to 15 centimeters of snow in the mountainous parts of Jeju Island and three to ten centimeters along the west coast of North Jeolla Province.
Areas on the east coast are forecast to see up to ten centimeters of snow starting Wednesday afternoon.
