Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, who has assumed the role of acting president following the impeachment of President Yoon Suk Yeol, declared eleven regions as special disaster zones following heavy snowfall late last month.
The regions are Gyeonggi provincial cities of Pyeongtaek, Yongin, Icheon, Anseong, Hwaseong, Yeoju, Eumseong County in North Chungcheong Province, Anheung and Dunnae areas of Gangwon's Hoengseong and Seonghwan and Ipjang areas of Cheonan, South Chungcheong Province.
Up to over 40 centimeters of snow were recorded in the regions between November 26 and 28, causing damage to a slew of agricultural facilities.
The designation was decided following a joint inspection by the interior ministry between December 9 and 13.
The disaster zones will be eligible for partial state coverage of recovery expenses, and area residents will be offered payouts, as well as deferment on taxes and public utility fee reduction.
