The Seoul government is bracing for possible terror attacks as thousands of South Korean Christians head to Jerusalem for a four-day peace march set to start on Saturday.
A Foreign Ministry official said Monday Seoul has agreed to form a joint task force with the Israeli and Palestinian governments in order to ensure the safety of Koreans visiting the Holy Land. In Seoul, top security officials will meet Tuesday to discuss the matter.
Despite the government's repeated pleas for a cancellation of the trip, more than one thousand Koreans are estimated to have already departed for Israel for the religious event. Another one thousand are expected to join them in the event - a five-kilometer procession through the Israeli capital and parts of Palestine.
The march will involve thousands of Christian Protestants from around the world, in addition to the South Korean participants.
