The death toll from a devastating fire at a multilevel supermarket in Paraguay has exceeded 300.

Paraguay's Interior Minister Orlando Fiorotto tentatively estimated Tuesday that 311 people had died from the fire that broke out Sunday at a supermarket on the outskirts of the capital city of Asuncion.

The fire, followed by two explosions, ignited on the first floor of the three-story building, and raged for seven hours before firefighters were able to extinguish it.

Officials are still trying to determine the cause of the fire.
