A consultative body comprising rival parties and the government will hold its first meeting on Thursday to discuss ways to stabilize state affairs in the wake of President Yoon Suk Yeol’s botched martial law attempt.
Ruling People Power Party(PPP) floor leader and acting chief Kweon Seong-dong and main opposition Democratic Party(DP) floor leader Park Chan-dae reached an agreement on the consultative body Monday morning, during a meeting chaired by National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-shik.
DP deputy floor leader Park Sung-joon announced the decision soon after, saying that the assembly speaker, the chiefs of the rival parties and acting President Han Duck-soo are likely to attend the body's first meeting.
Rival parties plan to hold working-level talks before the meeting to decide who will attend and what to discuss.
The PPP and the DP also agreed to hold parliamentary plenary sessions on Thursday and next Tuesday.
